Our Farm - The History

Our farm on Lynch's Creek on the scenic outskirts of Kyogle Northern NSW; was purchased by Garry & Lorraine Hickey in 1979. Their dream was to build up an existing dairy farm to be as prosperous and fruitful as they could make it. The days were long and the work was hard for these new farmers but they persisted, an attitude of never give up, long days and back breaking work, but slowly the work started to pay off. With good yields and filled quotas of milk, the dairy hummed along. Life on the farm settled into a constant rhythm of seasons, with early mornings, long days and restful nights. They achieved their dream and ran a beautiful farm and diary until mid-1996, when illness prompted retirement.

The farm then changed its purpose and owners Shane and his brother took over the farm where they raised beef cattle and produced quality pigs to support their butchery in Lismore Square.

In 2011 Shane and his wife Julia took over the running of the farm and the on-farm butchery. With a change in management came a new "go gently" management style and the farm is again humming along in tune with the natural rhythms of the seasons and climate. We now have for a holistic farming framework and we aim to utilise chemical free practices so that we can keep farming here for the rest of our lives. One of our primary goals is to work towards being an organic farm and gaining the coverted organic status. Of course, then we'd love for our children to be able to make a life and a living from the farm as well. We always work with the goal and  hope of leaving this beautiful farming country in a better condition than when we started..
